Daily: empty bins, wipe desks and shared surfaces, clean washrooms and pantry, sweep or vacuum floors. Weekly: mop all floors, disinfect handles and shared equipment, clean glass. Monthly: dust vents and high surfaces, clean behind furniture and do a deep clean of washrooms.
A written checklist makes office cleaning consistent, whether it is done by your own staff or by a professional office cleaning service. Use the lists below as a starting point and adjust for your office size and industry.
Daily tasks
- Empty bins and replace liners.
- Wipe desks, reception counters and meeting tables.
- Disinfect high-touch points: door handles, switches, lift buttons, shared phones.
- Clean and restock washrooms (soap, tissue, hand towels).
- Clean the pantry: counters, sink, microwave and coffee area.
- Sweep, vacuum or mop entrances and walkways.
Weekly tasks
- Mop all hard floors and vacuum carpets and mats.
- Dust shelves, window sills, partitions and monitors.
- Wipe glass doors and internal windows.
- Clean the inside of the microwave and fridge shelves.
- Wipe chairs and clean under desks.
Monthly tasks
- Dust vents, fans, lights and high shelves.
- Clean behind and under furniture and equipment.
- Deep clean washroom tiles, grout and fittings (limescale guide).
- Clean window tracks and blinds.
- Wash or wipe upholstered seating.
Shared equipment hygiene
Keyboards, mice, phones, printers and remote controls collect germs. Wipe them regularly with a cloth and suitable cleaner, never spraying liquid directly onto electronics. More ideas in our workplace hygiene guide.
Assign responsibility
- Decide who does which tasks and when.
- Keep a simple sign-off sheet so nothing is missed.
- Use professional cleaning for the heavy tasks: floors, washrooms and deep cleans.
How often should a professional clean?
